Your homework is to read two short stories "That Evening Sun" by William Faulkner and "where Have You gone Charming Billy?" by Tim O'Brien. That's it. Well, maybe look for signs of anxiety...

Homework for 9/8

This weekend, will you please:
1) read the NYT article and the "A Silent Epidemic" article found to your right under Documents.
2) Type one page that shares your thoughts and reactions to these articles.

• After reading the articles, summarize the main idea of the article in three sentences or less. This should communicate to your audience what the article is generally about and it answers the question, " Why is this significant?" Your summary should be its own separate paragraph.
• For the remainder of your paper, consider these questions (though you you not have to answer them):
• What are the strengths and weaknesses of the text?
• What did you find surprising or interesting?
• Do these articles relate to one another? Do the author agree/disagree? Address different aspects of an issue?

Course Description: In this English elective, we will begin the class by familiarizing ourselves with aspects of abnormal psychology. The we will move onto literature, not only looking at characters in literature who are unusual in a variety of ways, but also at the authors who personal obstacles are finding their way into their works. Our discussions will explore what society considers “normal’ behavior and how that is reflected in the works we will read.

Grading: Your grade will be based on a total number of points earned. Summative assessments will be worth more points than formative assessments.

Late Work

• Daily Assignments - It is important for daily assignments to be finished on time. Late daily assignments will receive full credit until the unit test. After that, they will receive partial credit.
